UNIT2: VERTEBRATES



FISH 

CHARACTERISTICS OF FISH
They are oviparous.
They have teeth.
They breathe through their gills. Gills are the openings on the side of a fish that let them take in oxygen from the water and expel carbon dioxide.
Their skeleton is made of bone.
Their bodies have scales of different sizes and shapes.
Their body temperature is not constant.
Most of them have swim bladder. This bladder is a bag filled with air that helps the fish float or sink without having to swim.

WHAT FISH EAT
Fish can be:
Herbivores. They eat algae and aquatic plants. Salmon and parrotfish are herbivores.
Carnivores. Most fish are carnivores. They eat invertebrate animals and other fish. Trout and monkfish are carnivores.
Omnivores. They eat plants and animals. Carp and piranhas are omnivores.

ACTIVITIES
